Abstract: (5502 Views)
This paper presents a simple technique improving the symmetry of tapered fibers and fused directional fiber coupler with a CO2 laser. The uniform heat distribution inside an optical fiber is achieved by using a scanning spot laser beam implementing a galvanometer mirror which applies uniform heat on HZ length of the optical fibers simultaneously. Highly symmetric and low loss tapers and fused couplers are achieved by using an adiabatic criteria.
