Tamm plasmons are the result of trapping optical energy at the interface between a metal film and a one dimensional photonic crystal. Unique optical properties of Tamm plasmons such as having a wave vector within the light cone and existing both S- and P-polarized Tamm plasmons facilitate them for direct optical excitation without the aid of prisms or gratings. In this paper existence of Tamm plasmons at the interface of one dimensional photonic crystal and a metal film(Ag) is shown and sensitivity of tamm plasmons on the change in refractive index of sucrose is investigated theoretically. The results shows that a refractive index sensor can be designed and fabricated based on this property of tamm plasmons
