gte mso 9]>l> 12.00 Entanglement is well known to play a key role in the domains of quantum computing, quantum communication, etc. In this paper, we consider a cavity that is surrounded by left-handed materials, inside of which a two- level atom interacts with photons. We employ von Neumann entropy, as a measure of entanglement, to describe the entanglement between atoms and the quantized electromagnetic field, in the Markov approximation. Starting from a separable state, it is shown that the degree of entanglement, as a function of time, varies from zero to a maximum and asymptotically diminishes. A comparison between this behavior and that in the right-handed materials is also given gte mso 9]>l> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE AR-SA gte mso 9]>l>
