In­ this ­paperو ­­checkerboard ­zone ­plate ­is introduced, ­and­ its­ focusing ­properties­ are­ investigated­. To this end, three other known zone plates, circular, cross, and square zone plates, are also considered. After that, we compute their point spread functions and compare them together. We demonstrate that the­ maximum transmitted intensity ­in the ­checkerboard­ is ­less ­than ­that of the  ­circular­ and higher­ than either ­cross ­and square.­ Moreover­,­ the­ width ­of ­the­ checkerboard point spread function transverse­ intensity­ is less­ than that of ­ other­ considered­ elements. Finally, the corresponding experiments are considered to verify the simulation results. It is shown that the experimental results are in good agreement with simulation data.
