Abstract- We study the potential of sub-wavelength spatial resolution of a two dimensional complex square-lattice photonic crystal (PC) consisting air holes immersed in the Ge medium. The band diagram calculations and the wave propagation studies are done utilizing the finite difference time domain method (FDTD) incorporating periodic and perfectly matched layer (PML) boundary conditions. In contrast to the common square PCs, photonic band structure shifts to the lower frequencies and the frequency corresponding to the effective negative refraction occurs in the second photonic band in near-infrared region, in our model system
