Passive Q-Switching of a Diode-Side-Pumped Er-Yb:Glass Laser with a Co2+:MgAl2O4 Crystal as a Saturable Absorber

In this paper, design and fabrication of a diode pumped Er-Yb:Glass laser Q-switched with Co2+:MgAl2O4 crystals was reported. The LASCAD software was used for designing the laser and based on this design; a laboratory layout was set up. Finally, the laser pulses of duration 30 ns and energy 15 mJ at about 2 W of incident pump power was obtained experimentally.
