Measurement of signal to noise ratio in Lidar

An experimental method for measurement of signal to noise ratio (SNR) in Lidar application has been reported. ‎The background, dark current and thermal ‎noises have been calculated from the signal tail. The shot noise of ‎the signal is calculated from the multiplication of signal voltage to noise scale factor. The noise scale factor is ‎estimated from the linear relation between variance and mean of the background noise. ‎The SNR of 150 and ‎‎1500 temporal averaged signals is equaled to10 at a height of 4 and 6 km respectively.‎
