In the present article, the prepariation and testing of a sample of second-harmonic generating (SHG) grown crystal of glycine zinc bromide is reported. The preliminary analysis indicates that the SHG potentiality of the crystal as twice efficient as that of a standard potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystal. Since this is the most cost effective avenue ever to produce a class of highly efficient second-order nonlinear optical materials, it would worth considering mass-production of such semiorganic grown crystals to meet the national requirements.
