Analysis and comparison of the electro-optical properties in two dielectric compounds Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 and Bi0.5Na0.5ZrO3

The electro-optical properties of BNT and BNZ compounds were studied in density functional theory (DFT) frame using full potential and linearized augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) and generalized gradiant approximation (GGA). The electronic and optical gaps of BNT were obtained 1.9 eV and 2.2 eV respectively but in BNZ compound, the values 1.45 eV for electronic gap and 1.8 eV for optical gap were achieved. Anisotropy for optical properties was seen in both compounds which results in birefringence characteristic for these compounds.
