Abstract:   (5900 Views)
Frit, with a ceramic composition, is a part of the tile glaze formed like glass particles after melting and fast cooling. Zircon (zirconium silicate) is used in ceramic glaze composition to reflect light and make a white surface. Since this material is expensive, some research has been done to find a cost-effective alternative for it. To make a white surface, it is necessary to maximize the difference between the refractive index of dispersed nanoparticles and glaze transparent layer as much as possible. In this paper zircon was substituted by CaO, MgO, Al2O3 as frit in the ceramic glaze and the effects on the physical properties of the surface were studied. Experimental results shown the sample, synthesized with CaO, MgO and Al2O3 in the engobe composition, had almost the same glazed surface physical properties as full zircon sample.
