Abstract: (2982 Views)
Linear effective refractive index of the colloidal suspension of nanoparticles in Rhodamine 6G dye solution is measured using Abbe refractometer. The results show that this method is effective below a certain density of nanoparticles. For nanoparticles with poor chemically active surfaces, increasing density and the contrast of the refractive index lead to increase of the effective refractive index. This trend is reversed in the case of nanostructures with chemically active surfaces. Results are explained using photon transport mechanisms in scattering media.
