Abstract- In this paper, a novel gas sensor design based on hybrid photonic crystal fiber structure is presented. Confinement loss and relative sensitivity of sensor are dependent to fiber structural parameters and operation wavelength which are achieved here by Finite Difference Frequency Domain (FDFD) method. The simulation results revealed that the high relative sensitivity and ultra- low confinement loss can be achieved simultaneously by using hybrid photonic crystal fiber structure and increasing the ratio of the air-holes radius of the outer rings to the pitch. The proposed design presents the relative sensitivity of 58% and the confinement loss of 2.3446 ×10-9 dB/m at 1.5μm wavelength which shows the superior performance of this design in comparison to the other existing designs.
