In this paper, the anisotropy of underwater turbulence was investigated using image motion monitoring method. Accordingly a beam of light with 532 nm wavelength after collimating with a diameter of 1 cm enters the underwater turbulence. The underwater turbulence is made up of an water-filled aquarium with dimensions of 20×20×30 cm3. The angle of arrival, AA, of light beam was measured at the end of the turbulence path at two directions perpendicular to propagation direction. Comparing the variances of AA in two directions, the anisotropy of underwater turbulence and influence of different temperature gradients on it were investigated. Results show the underwater turbulence is an anisotropic medium. In addition the anisotropy increases as temperature gradient increases.
